A subgroup of the Spanish and Latino Students' Association, SALSEROS is a cultural performing group aimed at promoting a variety of Latin music and dances in the University of Rochester community. Members enjoy dancing to salsa, bachata, merengue, cumbia, tango, and much more. We participate in multiple events across campus, such as Tropicana, Meliora Weekend, Diversity Show, Day of the Dead, and many others. We are always looking to grow and had our first annual solo show in March 2015.

SALSEROS is not just a dancing and performing group, its a family of learners who express their day to day experiences through Latin dance.

Our Founders

We would like to extend thanks to our founders who started this organization and built the foundation for the expression of Latin culture at the University of Rochester.

In the 2006-2007 school year, Anaís Rodriguez and a few other SALSA members founded SALSEROS feeling that there was a need in our campus for the expression of our Latin culture through dance. Originally, there was not much structure to the group, and throughout the next few years some members left to pursue other interests. At the end of his freshman year, Rubén Martinez was asked to take over the group for the following Fall as SALSA was concerned for the group's future. In 2010, he was named President of SALSEROS (a.k.a. the "SALSEROS King"), Anaís stayed on as Vice-President, and Genesis Alberto, another SALSEROS veteran, came on as Senior Advisor.

"My vision was to revitalize the group and make it a strong team and somewhere that people wanted to be. I worked hard at recruitment at SALSA events, informational sessions, as well as performing for Multicultural night at Freshman Orientation. We didn't want it to be an exclusive club for great dancers, we wanted anyone to feel comfortable in coming so we decided it would be a place where we would teach people to dance and whoever wanted to perform would be able to volunteer. I really wanted the group to be a family, so that people enjoyed themselves and stayed."

-Rubén Martinez

Since then, the group has grown exponentially and everyone is looking forward to what they will bring in the following years.
